Tooth enamel that has lost some of its mineral density can leave your teeth at increased risk for cavities and other dental problems. This could be caused by poor oral hygiene habits, frequently drinking acidic beverages, or putting off your regular dental checkups.

When a cavity does develop on one of your teeth it might cause increased sensitivity, discomfort, and even pain. This will require Dr. Steven Pooley to treat the tooth with either a dental filling, dental crown, or a root canal.

Fortunately, you can reduce your chances of suffering a cavity with an increased focus on oral hygiene and have Dr. Steven Pooley administer a fluoride treatment at his dental office in Loves Park, Illinois. It can often be performed at the end of your regular dental checkup.

Dr. Steven Pooley will pour concentrated fluoride gel into special trays that are inserted into your mouth. You will need to hold them in place for a few minutes to allow the fluoride to saturate the tooth enamel. Try to avoid eating and drinking for an hour afterward, to maximize the fluoride saturation of your teeth.

It would also be helpful to brush your teeth with a toothpaste that includes fluoride and has been approved by the American Dental Association. This will help increase daily fluoride exposure necessary to keep your tooth enamel strong in between your regular dental checkups with Dr. Steven Pooley.

If you live in the Loves Park, Illinois, area and you’re concerned about the strength of your teeth, you should call 815-968-5434 to schedule a dental checkup with a fluoride treatment at Pooley Dentistry.
